Weekly Roundup – 5/8/2020

After a week off for our buying frenzy on Bandcamp Friday, we’re back with a roundup of the releases we’re most excited about this week. Since we skipped last week, we snuck in some favorites from then as well. Happy listening!

DEHISCENCE | WENDY EISENBERG Wendy Eisenberg has been responsible for some of our favorite projects of recent memory, from unhinged rock as part of Birthing Hips to solo guitar recordings. This new record, dropped to Bandcamp quietly last Friday, is full of hushed, idiosyncratic songs created with just guitar and vocals. Grab it while you can; it may not be up on Bandcamp for much longer.

BIANCA | WEAK SIGNAL Weak Signal follow up their recent split single on Wharf Cat with a full album. Dropped with almost no warning last Friday, we were both excited and surprised to discover this. The band creates scuzzy rock with pop instincts on this gem of an album. It’s a record that we’re still processing, but we know that it’s well worth your time to check out.

RAINBOW BRIDGE | FIRE-TOOLZ Angel Marcloid, who writes and records as Fire-Toolz, can do no wrong in our book. Their music is what the internet might sound like if it were made audible; black metal riffs, pop hooks and electronic noise all blend together seamlessly. We recommended picking up their earlier album last week on Bandcamp Friday, and today you have a chance to listen to their newest one.

DIAS RAROS | MELENAS Melenas hail from Pamplona, Spain, and Dias Raros is their first album for US based label Trouble in Mind. The band combines jangle pop, shoegaze, and motorik beats and come out the other end with a flawless indie pop album. The songs, which all shimmer with a palpable sense of joy, are perfectly crafted to bring us light in these dark times; I found myself dancing around my apartment on my first listen.

S/T | POWERS / ROLINS DUO A collaboration between acoustic guitarist Matthew J. Rolin and dulcimer player Jen Powers, this is perhaps the most beautiful album you will listen to this weekend. Across three instrumental tracks the duo creates guitar soli music far lusher then you’ve ever heard it done before. The tracks wash over you with cascades of sound, allowing you to bask in their beauty. Not to be missed

REUNIONS | JASON ISBELL AND THE 400 UNIT Jason Isbell has consistently released some of the best country tinged singer songwriter music of the past decade. We haven’t heard this new one, but we can guarantee it’s gonna be a doozy. Although not widely released until next week, physical copies of the album will be available for purchase independent record stores today. Isbell is doing this to support record stores during this trying time, and we can’t get behind that enough.
