Weekly Roundup : 4/24/2020

Every week an overwhelming amount of music is released. In Weekly Roundup, we highlight some of the new music that came out over the past seven days that we’re most excited to listen to this weekend

LET ME TO ROCK | JOEY AGRESTA We haven’t heard much from Joey Agresta (aka Joey Pizza Slice) since his lo-fi masterpiece Let’s Not Talk About Music from 2017 (coincidentally released on Wharf Cat Records, whom we profiled earlier this week). Dropped without much fanfare onto Agresta’s Bandcamp Wednesday afternoon, the album should appeal to any connoisseurs of fuzzed out lo-fi tunes. Vinyl is forthcoming, so act fast if you want one!

PARADISE GARDENS | WHITE POPPY Not Not Fun, one of today’s great record labels (and one we’ll likely profile some day) just released a batch of four releases today. Like anything the label releases, they’re all worth checking out. But in these parts we are particularly excited about this release by White Poppy. The ebullient, shoegaze tinged lead singles caught our ears, bringing a little bit of summer to our quarantined lives.

OLD BLUES | BAD HISTORY MONTH The latest release from mainstay Exploding in Sound is this LP from Bad History Month. A mainstay of the Boston indie rock scene, they’ve been at it for over a decade. This album is described by the artist as inspired by both Dimples recent output and Brian Eno in the 70s. Count us as excited to dig in.

Fivio Foreign Drops New Project '800 B.C.' f/ Meek Mill, Quavo ...

800 B.C. | FIVIO FOREIGN Since the untimely death of Pop Smoke, many from the drill scene have been making their claim to the throne he left behind. Two weeks ago we got a full length from 22Gz, and we’ll be getting a new Sheff G mixtape in a few weeks. Today, Fivio Foreign dropped his first full length statement 800 B.C. As a big name in the scene with few official releases to his name, we’re psyched to see what he’s done here

TRUE OPERA | MOOR JEWELRY From their flagship Moor Mother project to free jazz collective Irreversible Entanglements, anything that Camae Ayewa is involved with is going to be amazing. This release, a collaboration with Philadelphia artist Mental Jewelry, dropped on Monday, is a noise rock barn burner. Perfect for starting a mosh pit in your apartment.

WE STILL GO TO RODEOS | WHITNEY ROSE Many of the most anticipated country music releases of the spring have been delayed, some indefinitely (I’m looking at you Dixie Chicks). This Whitney Rose release will dull the pain. Produced by Paul Kolderie (whose credits include work with both Radiohead and The Pixies), we’re looking forward to seeing what Rose cooked up here.
